STUDY 05

This project involved rethinking a recurring large-scale event video designed to celebrate every attendee by featuring their name and photo on screen. Previously built entirely manually, the process was time-intensive and inflexible. I was tasked with improving both efficiency and scalability, while maintaining a high-quality, engaging visual output across multiple global events and audience groups.

APPROACH

I identified early that the core challenge wasn’t purely creative, it was systemic. With thousands of attendees across multiple locations and waves, the existing manual workflow limited both speed and adaptability.

My approach was to redesign the pipeline as a repeatable, automated system within After Effects, combining scripting, templated animation, and structured asset handling. This allowed the creative to remain flexible, while fundamentally transforming how the content was produced and iterated.

DESIGN & EXECUTION

I developed a custom After Effects script that automated the entire import and animation process. The system was designed to:

Import image batches in alphabetical (last name) order

·

Automatically assign each image to pre-built animation nulls

·

Instantly apply a consistent animation system across all assets

This reduced what was previously a manual, frame-by-frame process into a single action. For each event wave, new image batches could be processed and output within minutes.

To expand the system’s flexibility, I introduced additional scripting to read metadata and dynamically generate accompanying text layers, enabling automated name reveals alongside imagery. I also built in conditional logic to identify higher-tier attendees and apply an enhanced visual treatment, adding an animated ring accent to elevate key individuals without manual intervention.

The system also allowed for creative variation year-on-year, including:

Multi-image compositions with rotational transitions on the X axis

·

Z-axis image carousels paired with dynamic typographic layouts

Despite these variations, the underlying framework remained consistent, allowing new creative directions to be implemented with minimal overhead.

OUTCOME

The result was a fully scalable motion system capable of supporting global, multi-location events with significantly improved efficiency and flexibility. At its largest scale, the system was used across six simultaneous international events; Monte Carlo, San Diego, Carlsbad, Prague, Riviera Maya, and Singapore, covering multiple waves per location and over 5,200 attendees.

The shift from manual production to automation dramatically reduced turnaround time while enabling real-time adaptability on-site. Last-minute attendee changes could be handled instantly by re-running the system and replacing outputs, something previously unfeasible.

This workflow became the standard for subsequent events, providing a reliable, repeatable pipeline that balanced creative variation with technical precision, ultimately elevating both the production process and the final output.
